What you need to know upfront:
Every May and June brings the same challenge for thousands of students in Cluj-Napoca: the rental contract ends, exams are done (or almost done), and you're left with two bad options:
Option 1: Keep paying rent through summer — 250–500+ euro/month for a studio or room in Cluj, while you're back home or on Erasmus. Cost: 750–1,500 euro for 3 summer months.
Option 2: Leave everything with friends or relatives — if you have someone, if it's not too much to ask, if your stuff doesn't get lost or damaged.
There's also Option 3 — which many students don't know about or haven't considered: a temporary storage space for 3–4 months.
The volume varies depending on how long you've been in Cluj and how much you've accumulated, but typically:
Personal furniture (if you bought or brought any): desk, ergonomic chair, shelves, bedside table — things you bought for your apartment that you can't leave behind when the contract ends.
Appliances and electronics:spare laptop, external monitor, printer, small kitchen appliances.
Books and university materials:dozens or hundreds of textbooks accumulated over years of study.
Clothes and textiles:off-season clothes, extra bedding, blankets and pillows.
Sports equipment or hobby gear:bicycle, scooter, sport-specific equipment.
Personal items:boxes of personal belongings, souvenirs, collections.
Savings vs Option 1: 550–1,000 euro over 3 months.
It depends on how long you've been in Cluj and how much you've accumulated:
1st year — few personal belongings:
If you arrived with luggage from home and haven't bought furniture or large appliances 4 sqm is enough — fits a few boxes of clothes, books and personal items.
2nd–3rd year — medium accumulation:
You've bought a few things for your apartment — desk, shelves, small appliances. 4–5 sqm covers it comfortably.
Master's or PhD student — 4+ years in Cluj:
You've accumulated furniture, books, equipment, maybe a bicycle. 5–6 sqm is the right choice.
Student with full furniture brought or purchased:
Bed, desk, wardrobe, appliances — 6–8 sqm..

If you're going home for the summer with just one carry-on bag and only have one large suitcase, a duffel bag or a boxleft to store, a full 4 sqm unit doesn't make sense — too much space, too much cost.

How to book:
Contact the Depozit24 team before the end of May — spots in the shared container are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Unlike individual units, the number of bags per container is fixed — we don't keep waiting lists.
No car? Practical options:
A friend with a car or SUV — for a typical student volume (4–5 sqm), one trip with a hatchback or SUV is enough. A pizza as a thank-you covers the logistics.
Local transport services in Cluj — there are moving companies and ad-hoc transport services that do small jobs. Cost: 150–300 lei for a local transport.
Shared van rental — if several friends have the same plan, split the cost of a rented van for half a day.

A common scenario: several students who live together or are friends all want to store things for the summer. The options:
Each with their own unit — more expensive per person, but each has independent access to their belongings.
One shared unit, split the cost — 2 students sharing a 6 sqm unit pay 210 lei/month each. Cheaper, but requires coordination for access.
Our recommendation: if you have similar volumes and get along well, a shared unit is economical. If volumes are very different or if one of you needs frequent access, separate units are more practical.

If you're going on Erasmus for a semester or a year, the situation is similar but longer:
Example: 4 sqm unit for 6 months on a 6-month contract = 290 lei/month × 6 = 1.740 lei total (vs 2,040 lei on a monthly contract).
Your belongings stay safe, monitored by video, accessible anytime — a friend or classmate can pick something up for you if needed.
Book early. May–June is the busiest season in Cluj — students moving, families relocating, renovations. 4 sqm units fill up fast during this period. Book 2–3 weeks in advance.
Pack books carefully. A box of textbooks is heavy — choose small boxes, not large ones. And label them — "Medicine Year 3", not just "Books".
Don't leave food. No canned goods, no food products in the unit — they attract insects and produce odors. Read What can you store in a unit? for the complete list.
Photograph the unit after organizing. A photo from the entrance reminds you exactly where everything is — useful when you come back in September after 3 months away.
Keep with you: important documents, your laptop, valuable personal items, clothes for the whole summer.
Price — 340 lei/month is accessible for a student budget. 1,020 lei for 3 summer months is much less than summer rent. And 65 lei/month for a single bag is the most affordable option in Cluj.
Monthly contract — you pay for exactly the time you need. If you come back in August instead of September, you exit the contract early without penalties.
Access — come whenever you want, not when a fixed schedule allows.
Security — your belongings are monitored by video and accessible only with your phone number. Safer than at friends' or relatives' places.
Location — Borhanci area, accessible from any neighborhood in Cluj in 10–20 minutes.
